It started off as a
joke, and a gesture of rebellion in 1886. The celebrated dandy Griswold
Lorillard sported a satin lapelled, tail-less jacket to a white tie & tails ball
at the Tuxedo Park Club in New York. This shocked the traditionalists, but
the look caught on giving us that name to the style. The style was slower to
take root in England until Edward VII, Prince of Wales wore a peaked lapel while
dining aboard his yacht. The Prince also popularized the pleated front formal
shirts with full dress collars and French cuffs-this added the finishing touches
